“Lion”
Spring 2012. I drew a sketch of this lion. I drew the basics, added more detailed, then I tried putting texture in it by doing little circles scribbles for the face and long lines for the mane. After that, I transferred my sketch to a scratch board. I etched away parts that I wanted to be white with a tack. I would then after I’m all done drawing, add more texture to make it more real. I like this photo because of the texture and the white stands out, but not too much were you can’t see the black.
“Watercolor”
Winter 2012. I created this by first putting tape on the project then by pouring three watercolors, which where blue, purple, and yellow. After it dried, I took the tape off and looked to see what shapes or objects were within it. I pulled out a platypus birdlike creature. I took watercolors to darken the area so it would pop more, then I took pen to add texture. Then I pulled out a school bus and a fish.
“Still Life”
Winter 2012. I drew objects on a table in my perspective at the beginning of the project. I would first do a gesture drawing and then go back and pay attention to an object. After awhile of experimenting, I tried using charcoal. I really liked the effects that it gave the picture. For my final project, I gestured drew with charcoal and then went back and added more details. I wanted the drawing to look almost like 3D, so I added light and dark areas and tried to make objects look a bit more rounded.
“Cookie”
Spring 2012. I first was given a cookie that we had to draw. I first drew the cookie as a whole. I started by gesture drawing with a circle. After that, I add details. I made sure to add details on the edges because it was more ridged near the ends and I wanted to give it a real life effect. After that, I took a bite, which tasted pretty good. I drew what I saw again. I made sure to add little crumbs to show that I hate taken a bite and that crumbs fell. I then ate the rest and just drew crumbs and a little piece to show that the majority was gone. I thought that this was really laidback.
“Gretchen”
Spring 2012. This drawing is of me and I weaved a flower into it also. I added a flower in this drawing because I think flowers are really pretty and I like to draw them also. I first started by making a grid on my pictures and a poster. I then found which areas were the darkest to draw with pencil. Afterwards, I went to the lightest and then filled in the rest of the areas. When my project was all drawn, I darkened areas to make the drawing pop more. I used a q-tip to help me with this process too. I really like this picture because it is one of my best works I would say.
“I Just Wanna Run”
Winter 2012. I was inspired by the song I Just Wanna Run by Downtown Fiction. I really like this song and thought that it would make a really good image. I drew my person and the pathway and made the buildings in 3-point perspective. After that, I traced it over to an ink plaque thing. I sketched all the parts that I wanted to be white. Throughout the project, I inked it up to see what I like and what I needed to fix. I liked how there would be little lines that added texture sort of say. After that, I did a plain black and white, white on black, tissue paper, watercolor, wrote the lyrics, watercolor and lyrics and colored pencil. My favorite one is the white on black.
